MERCOSUR and EFTA Sign Free Trade Agreement — Joint Declaration

New treaty establishes a free trade area between MERCOSUR and EFTA, benefiting millions and expanding opportunities.

On September 16, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro, the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between MERCOSUR and EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland) was signed, following 14 rounds of negotiations that began in 2017.
This agreement establishes a free trade area comprising nearly 300 million people and a combined GDP of over USD 4.3 trillion, marking one of the most significant milestones in the recent history of international trade for the countries involved.
